Belgium and Tour de France

July 31, 2007

We are now in Belgium putting the finishing touches on our training before Worlds start in Germany next week. Overall the team is in good shape. It has been great training with Jernej, he has been a great training partner. I guess we will know for sure how great after next week.

I am starting to feel better now and definitely better than before my last race at World Cup 3 in France.

On Sunday Kristina, Craig and I caught the fast train to Paris to watch the final stage of the Tour. A really good day out. Mind blowing how fast they were on the final few laps… An inspiring day out.

We have been in Europe for over a week now and the training has been enjoyable. I have been training with Jernej Zupancic from Slovenia, which has been good fun.

I have just received a new fixed shaft Beta Large paddle from Jantex. I have decided to use 218.5 70 degrees for now and see how it goes but so far feels very good. I have been experimenting with equipment and training since Athens and I think I am now close to being happy with the gear I will stay with till Beijing.

Today the Drug testing officials came from the ICF which I was pleased about. I get randomly tested often at home in NZ and until now never while I am away.

Well sorry I havnt updated my website for a while, the truth is that there hasnt been much to say. It is winter time in New Zealand at the moment and I have just been focusing on training and otherwise making the most of being home. It is a bit of a trade off travelling home and not staying in the warmer climate of Europe between World Cups and Worlds, 4 months of living away from home can be as hard as 6 weeks training in winter at home. Over the last 4 years I have alternated each year between training in NZ and Europe.

We leave next week for Europe for 3 weeks training before worlds.
