Over the weekend we had the annual King of the Mahurangi 20k kayak race.
I was keen to win for the sixth time as this would bring me one step closer to equalling Simon Mclarins 7 victories.
Its been another solid week of work following the Mountains to Sea training weekend, and I was a little bit concerned that I might not have enough gas in the tank to out sprint the others. The race started out at a moderate pace and we still had a group of six at the first turn. From there the group splintered down to three and not long after that it was just Mike Walker for company for the last 12.5k.

The course turned out to be 19k and I was pleased to win in 1hr 22m 45s.
